Beers Bokaal 2026 - Verslag Rainer Scesny

Dear fellow Spaniel enthusiasts, Earlier this spring, I entered the world of Spaniel Working Tests for the very first time with my young ECS, "Baxter" (Willowbriar Wolf) — and, as a complete Spaniel novice, I had a lot to learn! We came away from our first Working Test with plenty of valuable experience, many impressions, and, of course, a list of things we needed to improve. So, what did we do? We trained — and most importantly, we had fun! ;-) During the summer, we discovered the BEERS BOKAAL, organised by Gregory Pope, Jachthondenschool Flush & Fetch, and decided to enter. What could be better than a Working Test where you can meet so many like-minded people and their Spaniels, exchange ideas and experiences, and learn from the advice of judges and fellow competitors? For us, there was also another exciting question: Had we actually made any progress during those few months? The judges — Diaan de Rooij, C. van Geit, Michiel Groenewegen and Yvonne Knappers — had prepared a varied and challenging set of exercises. It was an excellent opportunity to see where each dog currently stood in terms of training and performance. I have to admit, I was genuinely surprised — and very proud — of little Baxter. He worked brilliantly throughout all the tests and, competing in the Starter Class with his equally inexperienced handler ;-), he managed to take 1st place! I was overwhelmed when Baxter was also awarded the "Guns Choice". This result has given me even more motivation to keep working towards our little dream of one day taking part in Field Trials. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to you, Gregory, and your entire team of helpers, to the judges, and of course to the landowner for making this such a wonderful day. The atmosphere was fantastic from start to finish. And thanks to all the lovely competitors, the good mood continued well into the evening during the excellent BBQ afterwards. Thank you all for the great conversations, the exchange of experiences, and the wonderful company! Happy training — and once again, thank you for everything!
